In memory of Mustafa V. Koç...
There is also a documentary DVD on the back cover of the book “Portraits of the Deep”. We lost Mustafa V. Koç on 21 January, 2016, and his contributions to underwater archeology are not well known in the media. Mustafa V. Koç, who is one of the founders of TINA “The Turkish Foundation for Underwater Archeology” had been continuing to give moral and material support to many underwater archeology projects both personally and with TINA for decades. TINA “The Turkish Foundation for Underwater Archeology”, where he is also among the founders, is the only non-governmental organization that works to provide insight and promote maritime history on the Anatolian coast and inland waters.
Lastly, the “Ankara University Mustafa V. Koç Marine Archeological Research Center”, which was named after him, was opened with his participation on June 17, 2015. He has always supported local and foreign underwater archeology teams as a maritime and history lover. Unfortunately, we lost him in January of 2016.
As an archeologist working in the field of underwater and maritime archeology, I would like to express my gratitude to him for his contributions to this discipline. His contributions shall never be forgotten. The book, “Portraits of the Deep” has been dedicated in the loving memory of Mustafa V. Koc, who was a great support to underwater archeology.
