Portraits Of The Deep
The book “Portraits of the Deep” is a project that was carried out with the assistance of 20 exceptional names who have contributed to enlightening the Anatolian coasts, and consequently, the world of maritime history since 1960, the time when the maritime archeology started to be applied scientifically. The book, prepared after 3 years of work, including long interviews, portrait photographs, and archive scans in different countries and cities, tells the almost 60 years old story of underwater archeology.
Names that participated in the book are; George F. Bass, Frederick Van Doorninck, Donald Frey, Mehmet İmbat, Oğuz Alpözen, Cemal Pulak, Ayhan Özdaş, Kenan Yılmaz, Ufuk Kocabaş, Jeff Hakko, Deborah Carlson, Mustafa Şahin, Osman Erkurt, Hayat Erkanal, Hakan Öniz, Berta Lledo.
The book, which is a redaction of almost 100 hours of interviews with these exclusive and important names, also features dusty photographs and special portrait photo shoots from 60-year-old archives.
In the book, there is also a surprise for the readers. One of the last interviews with Mustafa V. Koç, a founder of TINA, “The Turkish Foundation for Underwater Archeology”, was recorded during this project. This interview and the works that Mustafa V. Koç has accomplished under the roof of the foundation for Turkey’s underwater heritage is presented in this book from this DVD.
